In a joint effort to give consumers everywhere the finest music experience, Apple and Mercedes-Benz today announced that Apple Music's highly acclaimed Spatial Audio, which supports Dolby Atmos, is now accessible as a native experience in Mercedes-Benz automobiles for the first time. The MBUX infotainment system in Mercedes-Maybach models, including the EQS and EQS SUV, as well as the EQE and the S-Class, fully integrates Apple Music with Spatial Audio, providing these vehicles with studio-quality sound better than in any concert hall and providing drivers with a fully immersive listening experience with unmatched, multidimensional sound and clarity.
Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats, stated, "Sound quality is extremely essential to Apple Music, which is why we are so happy to be collaborating with Mercedes-Benz to make Spatial Audio on Apple Music available natively in the automobile for the first time. "Spatial Audio is transforming how musicians make their works and how music listeners consume it. It's an experience that is difficult to describe in words; you must hear it for yourself to really understand it. We now have more chances thanks to Mercedes-Benz to provide fully immersive music to all of our subscribers worldwide.
Markus Schäfer, chief technology officer and a member of the board of management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, stated, "We're combining forces to provide our consumers a standard music experience unmatched in the industry. We take great pride in the fact that our cars will be the first non-Apple products to provide immersive Dolby Atmos spatial audio. This faultless experience demonstrates how flawless hardware and software integration can raise the bar for in-car entertainment.
Drivers of Mercedes-Benz who already have an Apple Music subscription have immediate access to a constantly expanding library of songs and albums in Spatial Audio from some of the biggest musicians in the world across all genres, including hip-hop, country, Latin, pop, and classical. Listeners may browse and discover music from their favorite artists on Apple Music's curated Spatial Audio playlists, such as Driving in Spatial Audio and Hip-Hop in Spatial Audio. In addition, subscribers have full access to Apple Music's 100 million song catalog, thousands of editorially curated playlists, and daily picks from the best music critics in the world. This includes all of the performers and hosts who are featured on the service's live global radio stations, Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, and Apple Music Country.
One of the first vehicles in the world and the first model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup to offer this superior, multidimensional soundscape is the limited edition Mercedes-Maybach by Virgil Abloh, which was made available to consumers last month. It is powered by the Burmester high-end 4D sound system. The system has eight sound transducers (two per seat), two amplifiers, 1,750 watts of power, and 31 speakers, including six 3D speakers that project music from overhead, four near-ear speakers in the front seats, and an 18.5-liter subwoofer. Other models will shortly receive the technology.
